Marcos de Souza Oliveira

I am an Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra and a researcher working at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Representation Learning. My research focuses primarily on unsupervised learning, deep clustering, high-dimensional data analysis, computer vision, explainable AI, and intelligent systems.

My work combines theoretical machine learning research with applied AI engineering, with an emphasis on developing methods that are robust, interpretable, computationally efficient, and applicable to real-world problems.

Academic & Industrial Experience

I have over 15 years of experience spanning software engineering, artificial intelligence, and data science. My professional trajectory combines academic research, industrial R&D, software engineering, teaching, and technical leadership.

Education

I hold a PhD in Computer Science from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), with research focused on unsupervised feature selection and deep subspace clustering for exploratory high-dimensional cluster analysis.

My doctoral research investigated methods for discovering latent structures in high-dimensional data while improving the interpretability and effectiveness of unsupervised learning approaches.

I also hold an MSc in Computer Science from UFPE, with research on unsupervised feature selection for clustering in high-dimensional datasets.
